Year 7 - History of Baghdad Year 7 historians have started the year with an investigation of Baghdad in the 8th and 9th centuries. They have learned about the Islamic world before 750 and why Caliph Al-Mansur chose the location of Baghdad for his new capital. Students then explored the impressive 'Round City' which included defensive walls that were 17 metres high and the Caliph's palace which had a green dome that could be seen as travellers approached the city from afar. Students are now gathering 'treasure' for their 'Baghdad Treasure Boxes' about the treasures found in Baghdad, from impressive architecture to magnificent libraries; from mathematics to medicine.
