Year 11 have been investigating the growth of micro-organisms as part of their topic on communicable disease. They performed 3 experiments using aseptic technique. 1. Where in the lab could they find microbes? 2. Grow just one specie of microbe without getting it contaminated. Using a broth of E.coli, write their initial or a simple picture. 3. Add antibiotic discs to bacteria to see which ones affect the bacterial growth. The clear areas around some of the disc indicate which antibiotics were effective. Here are pictures of their results.

The Year 5s are thoroughly enjoying their class text this term - Street Child by Berlie Doherty. As part of their literacy work, they have been busy refining their skills of textual prediction to continue the story with their own creative ideas. They all worked really hard to combine the use of vocabulary specific to the Victorian time period, and figurative language to convey the setting and emotive events. The first paragraphs of their creative writing have been displayed in class alongside their watercolour silhouette scenes.
