Harriet & Izzy's New Challenge! Harriet in Year 8 and Izzy in Year 10 were invited to meet The Lady Dannatt MBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Norfolk, on Thursday 5th May at the @CharlesBurrellCentre. Harriet and Izzy have both been volunteering at the Charles Burrell Centre in their community shop, but more recently have taken on a new challenge for the Charles Burrell Centres Big Jubilee celebrations. They were invited to talk to Lady Dannatt about their volunteering and explain more about their current project. The challenge given to the girls is to design two art projects that will be displayed in the Charles Burrell Centre as a lasting memory of the Jubilee celebrations. One piece of art is designed to get local schools and community groups helping with before the jubilee, and the other is designed so that anyone attending the Big Jubilee Lunch at CBC could be a part of its creation. The projects are well under way and will be revealed at the Big Jubilee Lunch Sunday 5th June. Lady Dannatt is very interested in hearing from young volunteers in the community and was very impressed with the girls' work and commitment to the Charles Burrell Centre. Arthur currently plays at Worlington CC and has been on the Elite Player Pathway (EPP) Programme. Congratulations to Seth in Year 11, our Artist of the Month for March. As part of his Photography GCSE Seth has created an artist book on his chosen topic of landscape. To create his imagery Seth took photographs of a local dilapidated barn, highlighting the beautiful textures in the crumbling walls and roof. He created a sculptural book to contain his pages and layered his imagery together using Photoshop. Seth has a keen interest in computing and is currently using coding to create imagery as part of his final piece. Inspired by World Book Day earlier this term, Year 7 have written children's books for our Reception class. They visited the group a few weeks ago and talked to them to find out about things they liked and enjoyed. They then wrote and illustrated books specifically for them, using these ideas to make them as personal as possible. They visited again last week to read their finished books to the children. It was a really rewarding project as they could see how much the children enjoyed hearing their personalised stories. Come and visit our Young Entrepreneurs from 10:00am until 4:00pm on The Green, Thetford at the All About Local event hosted by Breckland Council. The Young Entrepreneurs company ‘EXHALE’ will be selling their homemade bath salts, shower steamers and lip scrubs and ‘The Bridge St. Candle Co.’ will be selling their handmade candles. Mrs Butler-Hand was very impressed with the Year 5 recorder playing this morning. Under the excellent direction of Mrs Weyers, they have been perfecting their recital of a descant, treble and tenor recorder piece in preparation for Friday's class assembly.
