Keystage and Tutor System

Pupils at Thetford Grammar School benefit from the holistic approach to pastoral care and academic support of our key stage and tutor system. This ensures depth and consistency of guidance across the many opportunities and challenges that pupils will encounter throughout their education.

Each key stage has a Head and a team of tutors. As Head of Prep School, Mrs Butler-Hand is Head of Key Stages 1 & 2, with Miss Venables as EYFS Co-ordinator and each class has a primary teacher that also fulfils the tutor role. In Key Stage 3, Mrs Glassbrook and her tutor team look after pupils in Years Seven to Nine. Mrs Skeels is Head of Key Stage 4, with her and her tutors caring for GCSE pupils in Years Ten and Eleven. Our Sixth Form is led by Mr Ward, assisted by Mrs Clark and their tutor team.

All of our Heads of Key Stage and their tutors are themselves teachers, and several are heads of departments, strengthening the links between academic achievement and personal development.

Tutors meet their tutees twice a day for tutorial and registration time, helping identify and address any matters as they arise as well as providing a strong base for pupils to become part of a collegial group benefiting from superb peer support.
