Every Tuesday, Mrs Settle visits the Reception class to read stories to the pupils. Over the last two weeks, the children have been busy doing something a little bit different with the help of Mrs Settle. By recycling old books and learning the art of paper folding they have made their very own hedgehog books. Don't they look brilliant! #TGSTogether #TGSPathways #JourneyOfDiscovery #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool

On Monday, TGS welcomed back Andrew Nattrass, supported by Frank Johnstone, to deliver a driver safety awareness session to current Year 12s. The session covered wide-ranging aspects of road safety including the ‘Fatal 4’ - seat belts, drink/drug-driving, inappropriate speed and use of a mobile device. The session also included an update on the laws around the use of e-scooters. While at times hard-hitting, the content of the session was powerful and gave food for thought for our newly qualified, newly learning, and 'those just thinking about it' drivers. Better to be safe, not sorry - a vital session for all our young (and old!) drivers alike. #TGSTogether #TGSPathways #JourneyOfDiscovery #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool

Some of our Prep children have taken it upon themselves to care for our local environment by organising and running a weekly litter picking club. They group together, decide upon an area to tidy and get to work. Their responsible actions show pride in keeping their school a safe and tidy place for all. #TGSTogether #TGSPathways #JourneyOfDiscovery #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool

Thetford Grammar Prep School had the pleasure of hosting artist and printmaker, @ameliabowman for a workshop on Thursday 19th May. Pupils in Years 1-3 have been looking at Amelia Bowman in relation to their current topic on famous places and faces and decided to focus on local artists, and with her work based on prints of local locations she fitted the bill perfectly. During the workshop pupils learnt how to make their very own sticky print plate using a range of textures, and then printed these in two separate ways. The first way demonstrated how pupils could use poster paint to achieve a colourful print, and the second way was a very simple version of Chine Collé where pupils printed onto patterned paper. Pupils created some fantastic work and all thoroughly enjoyed the workshop. #TGSTogether #TGSPathways #JourneyOfDiscovery #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool

🇬🇧 Year 5 are in full swing with their Jubilee celebrations this morning. They have been busy decorating biscuits with fondant icing and painting abstract silhouettes of the Queen whilst listening to a selection of British pop music. We are looking forward to this afternoon's Jubilee picnic in the sun! ☀️

The Prep School Thoughtings Club met again last week to play with ideas of Philosophy through poetry. The poem 'Pencil Person' was beautifully read by Elysia and all pupils utilised classroom materials to make their very own pencil person. Discussions followed that included asking how many things made up the 'pencil person'. Pupils disagreed as to whether the pencil person was a 'whole' or made up of many parts. They also discussed what was important in deciding how many parts made up the pencil person. This led on to the overall philosophical question of 'what is human' and 'what makes a person a person'- a move beyond thinking just of the physical! Particularly impressive was Olivia who started to question if we should think of a person more in terms of their mind rather than their body parts. Well done all! #TGSTogether #TGSPathways #JourneyOfDiscovery #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool

CBC QR Food Project Representatives from the @charlesburrellcentre QR Food Project were invited to meet The Lady Dannatt MBE on Thursday 5th May to showcase their good work so far. The project involves 14 students but only a small number could be at the Centre for the visit. Students have a range of responsibilities from choosing recipes, to liaising with the Burrell Shop for supplies, to 'hands-on-deck cooking' and videography and voice-overs. First, the group met Rose Bray from 'Feeding Britain'. This is a national organisation, based in Westminster, responsible for lobbying parliament for positive change. The project is hugely supportive of over 130 food projects, including the Burrell Food Shop and help in ways such as passing on food and books, and have also funded the Charles Burrell Centre chillers. As well as this, they have funded 6 months worth of Citizens Advice one day a week. They are keen that food projects are not just about food but also about wrap-around-care ensuring a pathway beyond poverty. Following on from this, the 6th Form group enjoyed lunch with The Lady Dannatt MBE, discussing aspirations for further studies and careers. After lunch, the group were able to present photographs of their work so far, as well as their first QR-linked video recipe in action! #TGSTogether #TGSPathways #JourneyOfDiscovery #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool

A huge thank you to all those who have supported the wildlife area. Over the last couple of months we have planted over 200 saplings, erected a new fence and removed the old wire fence and planted 8 more established trees. There is clearly still much to do and as you can see, the ground vegetation needs to be controlled! Over the next month we aim to plant established native fruit trees, build more bird boxes and create raised beds. If anyone has any materials that could be used to create raised beds or planters that they would like to donate it would be very much appreciated. Once again a huge thank you to all those who have contributed in anyway. #TGSTogether #TGSPathways #JourneyOfDiscovery #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool
