The Alzheimer's Society

The Alzheimer's Society

On the 26th of January 2018, Kate and Sophie, two pupils in Year 10 from Thetford Grammar School, held an event in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

This was mainly because Kate’s Grandad was diagnosed with the disease and Kate wanted to do all she could to help. Sophie also kindly agreed to help and they set off planning their event.

They are both doing their Gold Arts Award and decided to make it part of the project. So they taught children from years 1 to 6 how to make forget-me-nots by putting a blue hand-print in the middle of a page and then adding a yellow thumb-print in the middle. This was because the forget-me-not is the main symbol for the charity and Sophie said the hands symbolised unity. Before the event Sophie and Kate also made some home-made goods which included: lavender bags, pillows, soap, felt forget-me-not badges, bookmarks and fudge.

In the morning of their event they had an assembly taken by Sue, a volunteer who kindly came in and spoke to the whole school about the charity. Then at break and lunch Kate and Sophie lead a cake sale where they raised £150. Later, they had a parent’s event to showcase the art they had made with junior school and it was a great success.

From the whole event they managed to raise £400 but Kate’s Dad added Gift Aid which boosted it to £500.

As well as this the girls are doing a sponsored walk at Ickworth Park on the 1st of August to raise more money and they would appreciate it a lot if you could sponsor them.

Park Run

Park Run

On Saturday, pupils, students, staff, pets and parents joined together and formed a Thetford Grammar School sponsored run team to raise awareness of and funds for our Twin School Hamar Jajab in Mogadishu Somalia. Last year, we were able to raise funds to equip the school with laboratory equipment. You may have read of this news in our recent newsletters.
