🌳 EYFS had a great day out at High Lodge this week. Reception have been learning all about 'Woodland Wonders' and had fun hunting for clues to let them know what animals had been in the forest. Nursery were busy looking for different animals that might live in the forest habitat. Everyone had a great time at the various play parks and we even found the Gruffalo! 🌳

📚 Year 7 have been working hard on their two-week story writing project for young children. They looked at the 'ingredients' for a picture book and alongside this, interviewed our EYFS pupils regarding their favourite books and reading preferences. Using pupil responses, the Year 7 classes created personalised stories featuring rhyme, repetition and morals. They realised they needed to think very carefully regarding their story structure and word choices. The books were completed to coincide with our various World Book Day events and the resulting story session was a wonderful celebration demonstrating how we promote reading for pleasure at TGS. 📚

🌳 Last week, EYFS listened to the story ‘Stick Man’ before heading off to Forest School to find 5 different sized sticks to represent Stick Man and his family. They helped each other to compare different sizes of sticks before putting them into size order. Lots of exploration and fun was had along the way! 🌳

🌳 Our Prep School Councillors have been involved with yet another outreach project within the local community. As part of the Million Trees for Norfolk Project, they worked with the Norfolk Education Officer and Councillor Jermy to plant cherry blossom trees at London Road Cemetery in Thetford. 🌳 As well as the project helping to create a scenic community space, the trees will provide welcome habitats for wildlife and insects. The Prep councillors learnt about how the trees would support the environment and especially enjoyed making fat balls for the birds. It was muddy work planting the trees but that just made it all the more fun! Well done to our Prep school councillors for yet again being model representatives of the school. As always, we are so proud of your commitment and enthusiasm. 🌳 Thank you Thetford Town Council

Year 6 have moved onto creating interactive iPad games for their friends in EYFS. They thought carefully about integrating their computing skills with age-appropriate learning activities. Some of the games featured matching quantities to written numerals, others involved matching objects with their initial letter sound. They had a wonderful time testing out their games and were superb role models for our younger learners. EYFS said the games were "Good," and that they "Wanted to play them all!"

Prep School had a wonderful time celebrating Numbers Day 2024 for the @nspcc this week. Dressed in numbered clothing, the children were involved in a variety of mathematical activities including fractions with skittles, beetle drives and online problem-solving. The day started with a fun numbers song and a challenge set to find the hidden dominoes in the playgrounds, to calculate the total number of spots and to think of number facts related to the total. Playtime was a riot of mathematical thinking! Lots of fun was had by all and we were proud to raise money for such an important charity. #NumbersDay2024 #NSPCC

Sports Weekly Roundup On Monday 22nd January, the 6th Form boys Football team hosted Abbey College Cambridge. It was a tight game in blustery conditions. In the first half, Abbey College took the lead from the penalty spot. Elliott and Finn both went close from free kicks, only to be denied by some excellent saves by the opposition keeper. In the second half, TGS kept fighting and got their reward when Noah was fouled in the box and Elliott slotted home the penalty into the corner. With the game set to end in a draw, TGS broke forward and Elliott was played through 1 on 1 with the keeper and calmly slotted the ball between the goalkeepers legs and into the back of the net to win the match 2-1, much to the delight of the watching fans. Ollie was solid in goal, Tiger, Noah, Josh and Harry defended heroically. Finn, the Team Captain, Tom, Brayden and Dan bossed the midfield and Elliott and Harry were dangerous up front. Nathan and Alex also contributed well off the bench. Elliott was Man of the Match. On Wednesday 24th January, the Year 7 and Year 8 A & B Netball teams hosted Glebe House. The A team won 14 - 0. Alexia was Captain and Glebe voted Elysia the Player of the Match. The B Team drew 7 - 7. Ella was captain and Glebe voted Erin the Player of the Match. Well done to all the players for taking part. Artist of the Month - January 2024 A huge well done to Ella B in Year 7 for her recent drawing work in her Art lessons. Ella's topic work on 'tone and form' has covered drawing 3D objects using ellipses, as well as tonal pencil techniques. Ella's shiny coffee pot showcases her skills in scumbling, blending and highlighting. Fabulous work, Ella! #artist #drawing #ArtistOfTheMonth
