Inspired by World Book Day earlier this term, Year 7 have written children's books for our Reception class. They visited the group a few weeks ago and talked to them to find out about things they liked and enjoyed. They then wrote and illustrated books specifically for them, using these ideas to make them as personal as possible. They visited again last week to read their finished books to the children. It was a really rewarding project as they could see how much the children enjoyed hearing their personalised stories. They also worked hard to make them interactive, which the children really enjoyed! #TGSTogether #TGSPathways #JourneyOfDiscovery #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool

Come and visit our Young Entrepreneurs from 10:00am until 4:00pm on The Green, Thetford at the All About Local event hosted by Breckland Council. The Young Entrepreneurs company ‘EXHALE’ will be selling their homemade bath salts, shower steamers and lip scrubs and ‘The Bridge St. Candle Co.’ will be selling their handmade candles. Please come and support their ventures, they have worked so hard on their projects and it would be great to see them sell out of their products. #TGSTogether #YoungEntrepreneurs #Local #Thetford #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool

Mrs Butler-Hand was very impressed with the Year 5 recorder playing this morning. Under the excellent direction of Mrs Weyers, they have been perfecting their recital of a descant, treble and tenor recorder piece in preparation for Friday's class assembly. We are looking forward to having our parents on site for a musical, dance and drama performance! #TGSTogether #JourneyOfDiscovery #DiscoverTheWorld #TGSPathways #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool

Over the last half term our Reception class have been looking at Superheroes as their topic. In their DT lessons they have been making their own cities for their Superheroes to protect and save. They began the process by designing and painting the base and did this by making a birds eye view of a landscape with water and roads. They then painted unfolded boxes, added bricks and textures as well as cutting and sticking on doors and windows. They then made their own pipe cleaner Superhero to fly around their city. Great work Reception! #TGSTogether #JourneyOfDiscovery #DiscoverTheWorld #TGSPathways #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool

Year 13 have been looking at the use of immobilised enzymes in Industry as part of a topic on Biotechnology. Students made some alginate beads containing the enzyme called lactase, the beads end up looking like miniature frogspawn! The beads are then put into a syringe and milk is added to them. The enzyme hydrolyses the lactose sugar in the milk into its components - glucose and galactose thus making the milk lactose free. They then checked the method had worked using glucose dipsticks with the milk providing a negative test (pink) before coming into contact with the beads but a positive result (purple) afterwards. Immobilisation of the enzyme in the beads means the enzyme can be used over and over again. Fascinating work Year 13! #TGSTogether #TGSPathways #JourneyOfDiscovery #ThetfordGrammarSchool #Norfolk #Suffolk #IndependentSchool #BoardingSchool
