Welcome to Boarding

Thetford Grammar School has a long history of boarding, having first welcomed residential pupils in 1778 under the leadership of then Schoolmaster Harry Manning. Boarding continued to be an integral part of school life up until the middle of the 20th Century.

In 2018, after a 70-year hiatus, TGS welcomed a small but vibrant boarding community back to the school with much excitement. Our boarding house, formerly a boutique B&B close to the school, is a suitably cosy and welcoming home away from home. All rooms are en suite and with either two or three beds, meaning boarders have comfort and privacy, making great friends with roommates and housemates alike.

We know that pupils living and studying away from home need additional care and support to make the most of the academic and personal development opportunities available to them, which is why our boarding ethos is firmly rooted in family values that provide nurture and encouragement.

Boarders at TGS benefit from a safe, fun environment that promotes individual and collective success.
